Cleaning ceramic tile floors

One easy and effective way to clean unglazed ceramic tile floors is to use a electric floor washer on it. A solution of one or two tablespoons of a commercial floor cleaning powder o washing soda in a gallon of water may be used for the purpose. The objective of using a electric floor washer is to add luster to both the ceramic tile surface and the tile joints.

Cleaning glazed ceramic tiles

Glazed ceramic tiles look great, but are delicate. The surface may easily get scratched, especially if abrasive powders are used to clean the surface. And once a tile gets scratched, then dirt can easily get into the cracks, and cleaning become more difficult. The only alternative then may be to replace the damaged tile.

Cleaning solutions should not be left longer than on the floor for more time than essential, and the floor should be cleaned so that the floor is as dry as possible.

Aerosol bathroom cleaners may be used to clean glazed tiles. For instructions, please refer to the label on the container.

What to avoid on ceramic floors

Polish and linseed oil is not recommended for application on ceramic floors. Ceramic floors may become slippery and difficult to clean by the application of such treatments.

Ceramic tiles provide attractive floors and are relatively easy to clean compared to many other floors. Regular maintenance and proper care may go a long way in ensuring ceramic floors retain their beauty even after years of use.
