Antique Wood Floor Part 2
Is the wood stored in a humidity controlled environment? All wood is hygroscopic - they absorb moisture from the air when the humidity in the surrounding atmosphere is high. If the wood is not stored in a moisture controlled environment, then it will absorb moisture and expand. If the wood is installed in this condition, it might release moisture when the climate gets drier and then shrink.
Are there large knot holes and cracks in the planks? If large knot holes and cracks are not removed from the wooden planks, then the wood is not in very good condition.
Are there rot spots on the boards? Moisture and fungi together might have caused wooden boards to rot at certain places. Rot can weaken wooden boards. Decayed wood will have to be removed in most cases.
