Installing ceramic tiles over painted concrete floors

Now, if you want to install ceramic tiles over painted concrete floors, you will first have to remove the paint so that the tiles will bond with the concrete, not the paint. If the tiles bond with the paint, then the tiles will probably have to be reinstalled before long.

Removing paint from a painted floor can be a messy job, and some people recommend power sanding the paint off instead of using a chemical stripper. The dust will have to be completely removed using a mop with water and allowed to dry.

If the concrete floor is very smooth, the floor may have to be roughened to increase the quality of bonding with the tile ( please refer to manufacturer's instructions on how to do this ).
Any unevenness in the floor - like humps - will have to be leveled using a portland cement based leveler so that the surface of the concrete become completely flat without and undulations - or at least gets as close to being perfect as possible. This reduces the impact such imperfections will have on the finished ceramic floor.

For the amount of time required for curing, please refer to the manufacturer's instructions.
